SHS Board of Directors Meetings

Description: The Saskatoon Horticultural Society (SHS) holds monthly Board of Director Meetings to discuss and implement the governance of the SHS. Members are encouraged to attend and introduce themselves to the Board of Directors.
Dates: Second Thursday of every month, from February to October.
February 14, March 14, April 11, May 9, June 13, July 11, August 8,
September 12, October 10.
Meetings are open to members.

Succulent Club Meetings

Description: This newly formed club within the SHS is meeting at Sobeys (8th and Cumberland) in the meeting room next to Starbucks. We are looking for new members, ideas, and exchange of plants. Bring along your extra succulent slips to share.

Seedy Saturday

Description: Hosted by CHEP Good Food. We are excited to feature a booth at this year’s event which focusses on providing community access to seeds. Stop by and introduce yourself. Learn about our various program offerings, membership benefits and scholarship offerings. Learn how you can get involved with the SHS today.

Gardenscape

Description: An annual tradeshow featuring a variety of exhibitors. Come visit the Saskatoon Horticultural Society Booth for lots of neat gardening ideas. Learn about the various events and scholarships/bursaries the SHS membership and get discounts off at participating retailers. See you there!.

A Physiotherapy Workshop: Getting Ready for the Gardening Season: Feeling Good from my Head To-Ma-Toes.

Description: Gardening can be a very physical task, and we want you to be able to enjoy this coming spring without an injury! This workshop will give you the knowledge you need to get physically ready for the gardening season. Physiotherapist, and aspiring Master Gardener, Lacey Nairn Pederson, will guide you through common gardening injuries, how to prevent those injuries, as well as how to safely lift, shovel, kneel and keep your body moving through this busy spring. This session will also include time to practice your new skills. Please join us so you can spend more time enjoying the gardening season injury free this year.
Registration: There are only 30 seats available so please register by signing the form at Gardenscape or by contacting Nancy Hanson.
Fees: Registration fees of $10 for SHS Members and $20 for non-members.

1st Butterfield Scholarship

Description: The Saskatoon Horticulture Society's Butterfield Scholarship awards up to $600 annually to enthusiastic gardeners who are committed to completing their Master Gardener Certification. Funds will be distributed to the successful applicant(s) in the form of reimbursement when all core courses and final exam have been completed. For more information visit:

Spring Plant and Water Gardening Fundraiser

Description: The Saskatoon Horticultural Society (SHS) invites the public to come out to this fun-filled fundraiser. Proceeds go to our bursary/scholarship initiatives, website/newsletter and workshops/tours held annually. Donate your extra plants to the SHS plant sale and buy a few new ones! Members can register and set up a table to sell plants and other gardening merchandise. Stay tuned for more information!

NaturCity Festival Workshop: All About Bees, Urban Beekeeping and Pollination (Sponsored by City of Saskatoon)

Description: The Saskatoon Horticultural Society and the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre Garden Patch are hosting a joint event in this year's NatureCity Festival. Come to the Garden Patch and learn about honey bees, urban beekeeping and pollination. Take a peek at honey bees hard at work in the display hives. We will talk about other pollinators at the Garden Patch and how we can help pollinators in our own yards. Join Jeff Boone, an urban beekeeper and entomologist, to talk about bees and other important pollinators in our city.

SHS Passport Garden Tour

Description: A "Drive Yourself", self-guided tour of some of Saskatoon's finest gardens. There will be a limit of only 250 people. Purchase your passport at Early's (2615 Lorne Avenue or 503 51st Street East) or Dutch Growers (1818 Central Avenue) for $15 per person. Children under the age of 12 attend for free. The Passport will reveal information on yard locations. Deadline to submit your garden is June 1, 2019. Please call Sandra or email the SHS at saskatoonhortsociety@sasktel.net. The Passport Tour goes on rain or shine. See you there!

Join us for the return of our fun, friendly and interactive competition for which Dutch Growers will be providing the prizes. Each visitor to the gardens will be asked to cast a vote for their favourites in the following categories:

  • People's Choice Award - Prize $200
  • Best Water Feature (pond, fountain, etc) - Prize $100
  • Edible Garden (vegetable or mixed garden) - Prize $100
  • Nature Friendly (xeriscape, native plants, etc) - Prize $100

    Annual Volunteer Appreciation BBQ

    Description: If you have volunteered with any of the SHS activities and events this year you will be invited to attend the annual Volunteer Appreciation Barbeque. Details will be forwarded closer to the date.

    End of Summer Garage Sale

    Description: Clean out your garages, sheds, and basements. Donate to the SHS garage sale. Proceeds from the sale go toward funding scholarships and other SHS events.

    Prairie Horticulture Certificate Scholarship

    Description: The Saskatoon Horticultural Society (SHS)invites applications for scholarship funding to complete their Saskatchewan Prairie Horticultural Certificate (PHC). A scholarship will be awarded annually.Funds will be awarded to the successful applicant in the form of reimbursement for the initial registration fee and each of the 9 required courses up to $1,000.
