A truly well written book as the author appeals to gardeners and nature lovers.

Great history on our native plants and their origin.

All in all this book was a joy to read and I recommend this to all fellow gardeners.

When is a 'Flower'
Not a Flower?
By
Larry & Carol Peterson

If you have a young naturalist in your acquaintance this is the book for you. You will not find specific information about gardening or even particular plants but you will find introductory botany. This clearly written book has ample illustrations - diagrams as well as photos.

I particularly like the photos of microscopic views of plant structures. There is a glossary of highlighted terms and a few pages of common and scientific names of plants. With its question and answer format, large font and dozens of photographs of both the inside and outside of plants, this book should appeal to elementary age readers or someone who finds himself answering a child's "what" and "why" questions.
